It is indeed foolproof. I surprised my Korean-American wife with this when she got back from her class on a day I got off early, and she was very impressed. Since I’m no cook, it can only mean that this recipe is fool-proof.

hahaa YESSSS! this recipe allowed me to wean my boyfriend into korean food love…he really liked this and FINALLY agreed to go to a korean restaurant with me in the future. letting him see and touch the ingredients that went into everything allowed him to actually focus on the good taste and not the fermented/old concept. baby steps….thank you EYB!

Hi Linda – I haven’t cooked much with rice syrup, but I think you could substitute it in this case since it’s a small amount. Hope it works out for you!
